I've created some brand new items for my Etsy shop! These are all completely handmade, fully hand stitched, needlepoint fridge magnets! I have brought back my Tetris fridge magnets (which were featured in the wonderful Craft: magazine online blog a while back!) and added some new ones to my shop as well, including a Mario set, a Bubble Bobble set, and a Pacman set!
The Mario fridge magnets (pictured to the left) feature a question mark block, a red mushroom, a green 1up mushroom, a fire flower, a star, and a gold coin - all in fridge magnet form!
The Pacman fridge magnets are a set of six needlepoint magnets: Pacman, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde (the four ghosts), and the dark blue ghost that Pacman can eat.
The Bubble Bobble / Bust a Move fridge magnets are also a set of six, that feature four of the enemies (including the super scary invincible white ghost that comes to get you after a certain amount of time...if you played Bubble Bobble as a child, I'm sure you were pretty scared of him, too!), and the two dragon heroes (Bub and Bob).
All of the fridge magnets are completely stitched by hand and the back of the character is covered completely with felt to hide all of the stitches. Attached to the felt is a sturdy magnet, allowing you to use these on your fridge, your locker, or anywhere magnetic!
I hope you enjoyed viewing these as much as I enjoyed making them! More to come in the works...or if you have any requests, I can pretty much make any video game character, and I'm always happy to take custom orders! :)

It's been a while since I last posted, and I've been meaning to post about this for a while - my sent and received items in the Craftster Video Game Swap. It was my very first Craftster swap that I had ever participated in, and it was super fun! Basically, when you sign up for a swap, you get matched with someone else who you craft for (and they craft for you). In this case, we filled out a little survey stating what our favourite video games were, our favourite video game characters, and our favourite systems. Other information included details on what we could already make, and the kinds of crafts that we admired. With this information, you craft for the other person, making four things (1 large, 2 medium, and 1 small) by the due date, mail them out, and receive a fun package in the mail!
The large item that I created for the swap (I traded with Ashley) was a handbound Mario journal. Ashley said that she loved writing things down, so I went to work to make her a fun, geeky journal. I created the journal from a recycled hardcover book, recovered with brown corduroy fabric, and put Mario's image on the front.

I created the journal from a recycled hardcover book, recovered with brown corduroy fabric, and put Mario's image on the front.
This sounds easy, but it took a really long time - I created each pixel from a tiny square of felt and handstitched each piece of felt to the corduroy with embroidery thread. It took a really long time to create this, but I was super happy with the end result! As a guide, I found an image of 8-bit Mario to use.
The papers inside the journal are bright and multi-coloured, to offset the plain, dark brown cover. I think there were over 100 pages in the journal, so it should last her a really long time!
For the medium sized crafts, I made Ashley some Tetris fridge magnets and a Question Mark Block Perler Bead Decoration. You can read all about the Question Mark Block on this blog since I posted about it a little while ago.

I came up with the idea for the Tetris fridge magnets when Ashley said that she wanted some new things for her new place, and one of her favourite video games was Tetris. I have since been selling these in my Etsy shop and they have been pretty popular - they were even featured on the popular Craft: blog! They are needlepoint, handstitched Tetris pieces - all seven of them - in different colours. They have a matching colour of felt on the back to hide all of the stitches. Then, a magnet was sturdily attached to the back. Very fun art for your fridge, and also very useful!
For the small item, one of Ashley's favourite games is Cooking Mama - who doesn't love this game? If you haven't heard of it, the game is for the Nintendo DS as well as the Nintendo Wii. You prepare various meals and perform cooking tasks with a variety of recipes. The Cooking Mama rates you on your performance. The things that Mama says are hilarious: "Wonderful! Better than Mama!". You've gotta play this game. Anyway...back to the craft...
I made this Cooking Mama bracelet for Ashley. It is made from 1" buttons secured to a bracelet form. It has a few different pictures of Mama, the Cooking Mama logo, a prepared meal from the game, and a medal rating from the game.
All in all, I definitely recommend participating in one of these craft swaps - especially one that fits your crafting style. Most of my crafts are centered around the theme of video games (if you hadn't noticed!) so this was the perfect swap for me! In my next post, I will show you all of the fun things that I received from Ashley!
