The Mario fridge magnets (pictured to the left) feature a question mark block, a red mushroom, a green 1up mushroom, a fire flower, a star, and a gold coin - all in fridge magnet form!
The Pacman fridge magnets are a set of six needlepoint magnets: Pacman, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde (the four ghosts), and the dark blue ghost that Pacman can eat.
The Bubble Bobble / Bust a Move fridge magnets are also a set of six, that feature four of the enemies (including the super scary invincible white ghost that comes to get you after a certain amount of time...if you played Bubble Bobble as a child, I'm sure you were pretty scared of him, too!), and the two dragon heroes (Bub and Bob).
All of the fridge magnets are completely stitched by hand and the back of the character is covered completely with felt to hide all of the stitches. Attached to the felt is a sturdy magnet, allowing you to use these on your fridge, your locker, or anywhere magnetic!
I hope you enjoyed viewing these as much as I enjoyed making them! More to come in the works...or if you have any requests, I can pretty much make any video game character, and I'm always happy to take custom orders! :)
You can check them all out in the Lost Mitten Etsy Shop in the Needlepoint Pin section of my store.
The first one is this crochet Yoshi hat! Fits me perfectly, and it's super fun. There are red little spikes down the back, just like Yoshi has, and two eyes in the top of the hat. It is so adorable and I can't wait until it gets cooler outside so I can wear it!
Next, she made me a pouch/case for my Nintendo DS. It is a great little fabric case that my DS Lite fits into perfectly. It is great that she made this - Paul and I ended up with 3 DS Lites between the two of us (he got me the pink one for Christmas even though we both already had white ones) so we could definitely use a third case! It has two little spaces in the front where you can put games. And it has super cute heart fabric!
The third item that Ashley sent me is this awesome Toadette scarf! I wrote down in the survey that we had to fill out that Toadette is one of my favourite video game characters - Toadette rules. She is crazy and spunky, and this scarf perfectly captures the character! The fact that it is pink rules, since pink is my favourite colour. The yarn hair is fun and cute and the fact that she is winking is wonderful! :)
The fourth item that I received is this tote bag - which I must say, is such an original idea! Some of my favourite video games are Bubble Bobble and Bust a Move, both of which feature the dragons, Bub and Bob. Ashley used fabric paint to create Bub and sewed buttons to the bag to symbolize the bubbles that you try to bust in Bust a Move! So bright and colourful, lots of fun, and will be great to take to the store instead of using those wasteful plastic bags!
And the last item is this Mario zippered pouch. I always have a use for more zippered pouches, to carry make-up, to carry things in my purse or bag, and they're great to carry things on vacation. And anything with Mario & Donkey Kong on it rules! Ashley was nice enough to include 5 gifts instead of 4 in the package - what a sweetheart! She is a really talented crafter and I'm so happy that I got her as my swap partner! She also has an Etsy Shop, Oh That Ashley.
The large item that I created for the swap (I traded with Ashley) was a handbound Mario journal. Ashley said that she loved writing things down, so I went to work to make her a fun, geeky journal. I created the journal from a recycled hardcover book, recovered with brown corduroy fabric, and put Mario's image on the front.
The papers inside the journal are bright and multi-coloured, to offset the plain, dark brown cover. I think there were over 100 pages in the journal, so it should last her a really long time!
For the medium sized crafts, I made Ashley some Tetris fridge magnets and a Question Mark Block Perler Bead Decoration. You can read all about the Question Mark Block on this blog since I posted about it a little while ago.
For the small item, one of Ashley's favourite games is Cooking Mama - who doesn't love this game? If you haven't heard of it, the game is for the Nintendo DS as well as the Nintendo Wii. You prepare various meals and perform cooking tasks with a variety of recipes. The Cooking Mama rates you on your performance. The things that Mama says are hilarious: "Wonderful! Better than Mama!". You've gotta play this game. Anyway...back to the craft...
I made this Cooking Mama bracelet for Ashley. It is made from 1" buttons secured to a bracelet form. It has a few different pictures of Mama, the Cooking Mama logo, a prepared meal from the game, and a medal rating from the game.
All in all, I definitely recommend participating in one of these craft swaps - especially one that fits your crafting style. Most of my crafts are centered around the theme of video games (if you hadn't noticed!) so this was the perfect swap for me! In my next post, I will show you all of the fun things that I received from Ashley!
So far, I have made a Mario one and a Zelda one, both are available in my Etsy shop.
The best part of the entire day though was a garage sale that I found in the paper that had two awesome words attached to it: Video Games! So, we arrived and the first huge table we saw was the guys from Cash Converters selling off extra stock of new and used games! So, we grabbed some games that we'd been meaning to buy for the Cube and the PS2.
Then, we found out that the garage sale was at the site of the Personal Computer Museum, a place which we had been meaning to explore. It was actually inside a building behind the house (how cool is that, to have a computer museum in your backyard!) In the backyard, there were a few more tables with some vendors selling other misc. computer and video game things, where we bought some NES games and a whole box of old Nintendo Power magazines! Then, one of the biggest finds - an original Commodore 64 computer in the box and the drive - so stoked about this! Poolie and I have both never had a Commodore 64 and have always wanted one. I've wanted one since I played Bubble Bobble for the first time at a friend's house when I was really little. The only thing we need for it now is a monitor, which shouldn't be too hard to find
We were lucky enough to take a tour of the museum itself which is amazing. They have so many different PCs on display to see and play. There are lots of pictures and information up at the museum's website, but I highly recommend checking it out for yourself in person if you have the chance! We also got to hear some awesome live music, thanks to Rob & Steph, who were making some amazing beats and bleeps from a pair of Atari 2600s and a music Atari cartridge called SynthCart. Paul and I are definitely going to get our hands on the SynthCart when we get the chance so we can create our own sweet sounds! Anyway, garage sales were so much fun this weekend, can't wait until next week!
I've been very busy lately, I'm feeling pretty productive! I decided to participate in my very first craft swap on Craftster - this swap definitely suited me - the Video Game Swap! You get matched up with a swap partner and craft items for them, and they craft for you. She provided me with a list of her favourite video games and favourite systems, so I've been busy crafting away ever since. I'm completed 3 items, just one more to go! I'll be sure to post pictures of the things that I'm sending out once she receives them (don't want to ruin the surprise in case she stumbles upon my blog!), and I can't wait to see the goodies that I'll receive in the mail. So much fun!
I've also been participating more and more these days on Postcrossing. Just in case you haven't heard of the site, it is a postcard swapping site, where you will send out postcards to various people from around the world and will receive ones from other people in return, and at random. I absolutely love getting mail (who doesn't!) and it is awesome to receive postcards that have travelled from places all over the world. My latest postcards are from the Philippines and Portugal, as well as a postcard penpal that I recently acquired from China. I've also been fortunate enough to have a few long-letter penpals from the site who I really enjoy writing to and hearing from! So, I definitely recommend checking out the site if you're interested in that kind of thing!
Hello! Just thought I would share a relatively new item in my shop - video game fridge magnets! They are
needlepoint with felt on the back and a sturdy magnet. They're pretty cute and fun, and I really enjoy making them! I'm also making computer floppy disks (3 1/2") as well in the memory of older style computers since these disks aren't really used anymore!
I'd also like to share an item that I purchased from the Etsy Shop, Danger Kitty Designs - this totally awesome Olive Celtic Cuff! It is reversible so it can be worn vinyl side up, or cotton side up. I've been wearing it with the cotton side up because it has an awesome pattern on it that needs to be seen!
Here are some more images of some of the needlepoint magnets that I have made. Hope you enjoy them! :)
Welcome to my blog! I decided to start a blog, mainly devoted to my love of do-it-yourself and crafty goodness. I am the owner of an Etsy shop called Lost Mitten (http://lostmitten.etsy.com). I'd like to use this space to feature crafts that I have made for my shop, things that I have purchased in other shops (or would like to purchase!), or things that I have made for either myself or my fiancé, Paul. I tend to make a lot of things for us first, which end up translating into items that I have later in my shop, so all of the items that you might find in my shop you would also find around our place!
We are in love with video games, especially all things Nintendo. We still play our original NES and SNES on a regular basis, as well as games on the Nintendo Wii. Right now, we're quite involved with the new Super Paper Mario game, it's great fun! So, lots of things that I make relate to video games in all of their pixelated glory.
I also love to knit - mittens, scarves, hats, bags, sweaters - you name it! I'm also in the process of teaching myself how to crochet, but I'm very partial to knitting right now since I know it best!
Anyway, I'm sure this will be a lot of fun and I look forward to meeting other like-minded crafters on here! :)
